Custom words for skribbl.io, ready to paste
Build a word list for your next private skribbl.io game: pick the themes and the difficulty, choose how many words, and copy the whole list in one tap. No word comes up twice, and none is longer than 30 characters.
How to add custom words in skribbl.io
- Build and copy. Pick themes and a difficulty above, choose how many words, and tap “Copy list”.
- Create a private room. Open skribbl.io, type your name and create a private room.
- Paste the list. In the room settings, paste it into the custom words box. The words are separated by commas, the way skribbl.io reads them, and a word can have spaces in it, like “ice cream”.
- Choose only your words, or a mix. To play nothing but your list, tick the option to use custom words only. Leave it off and your words are mixed in with skribbl.io's own.
- Invite and start. Send the room's invite link to your group and start the game.
skribbl.io sets its own limits on custom lists, such as the fewest words it takes and the longest word it allows, and they have changed over the years. If it won't take your list, check what its settings say and build a list to fit.
What makes a good custom list
- A difficulty that suits the group. Easy words keep new players scoring; hard ones are for groups who have played a lot. A list of nothing but hard words makes for long, quiet turns.
- More words than you think. Each turn offers the drawer a few words to choose from, so 8 players and 3 rounds go through dozens. 100 words keep most games fresh; take 250 or more for a long one.
- Things you can picture. Objects, animals, actions and scenes draw best. Brand names and people's names need a lot of luck.
- A few words of your own. Type them in after the list: pets, teachers, the canteen, the group chat's running jokes. A few go a long way; too many and newcomers are left out.
Lists for your group
- Children: the themes above aren't filtered for kids. Use the Pictionary words for kids instead: sorted by age, checked by hand, and each age group copies in one tap.
- Work: pick Office stuff and Corporate slang. Every one of them is on office Pictionary words, with a plan for a 15-minute team game.
- Desi game night: pick Desi for food, festivals, cricket and Bollywood. All 157 are on Indian Pictionary words.
- Warm-ups: pick Easy for words that draw themselves, or browse all 581 easy Pictionary words.
- Old hands: pick Hard, and read hard Pictionary words, and how to draw them before you play.
Or browse all 1,686 words, theme by theme, on the full list of Pictionary words.
Or play your list on Drawdle
Drawdle is a free drawing and guessing game for private rooms, made for phones, and custom words are built in.
- Up to 500 words a room, pasted with commas or one per line. Play only your words (at least 10), or mix them with Drawdle's word packs.
- One tap from here. “Play these on Drawdle” opens the game with your list ready: type your name, create a room, and it plays only your words.
- Made for phones. Draw with a finger, and guess with the keyboard open without losing sight of the picture.
- No sign-up, no ads. Type a name, pick an avatar and send the link.
- Drawers can add their own. If the host allows it, each drawer can write up to 3 words of their own a game.
Drawdle is not affiliated with skribbl.io. For a game like it to play privately with friends, see our skribbl.io alternative.
Questions
How do I add custom words in skribbl.io?
Create a private room, then paste a comma-separated list into the custom words box in the room settings before you start. Tick the option to use custom words only if you want nothing else.
How many custom words should I add?
Enough that nobody sees the same word twice: 8 players and 3 rounds take 24 turns, and each turn offers several words. 100 suits most games, 250 or more a long one. skribbl.io sets a minimum of its own too.
Can I play these lists on Drawdle?
Yes. Tap “Play these on Drawdle”, or paste any list into “Your own words” in a Drawdle room's settings. Commas or one word per line both work, up to 500 words.
Got your list? Paste it into skribbl.io, or play it on Drawdle, where nobody needs to sign up.
